Reindeer Brittle

It was Christmas morning and I was trying to get everything ready for the Christmas meal.  I was in charge of two things:  a veggie and a dessert.  Shouldn't be too hard, right?  Well, when you have a 6 month old you tend to do things in a hurry while they are taking their nap.  So I decided to make some chocolate covered pretzels with crushed candy cane pieces.  I mistakenly put the crock pot on high instead of low and dumped the chocolate in.  Unfortunately, it melted the white chocolate a little too fast and burned it.

My next thought was, "Well, I'll just add some dark chocolate and milk that way you can't tell it burned." It ended up becoming a blob of messy chocolate instead of looking like the nice silky chocolate in the pictures.  There I was in my robe, scraping it all out on to wax paper to throw away.  I stood there for a minute and thought, "Ha, it looks like a big ole pile of poop!"  So then I started playing with that idea and thought I could tell the kids that it was what the reindeer left on my roof;-)

I still had the crushed candy canes and pretzels so I added that to the blob of chocolate, stuck it in the fridge, and let it cool a bit.  Afterwards, as we were walking to our friend's house, I thought... "We can just call this Reindeer Brittle."  And the kids gobbled it up!

Here is the recipe:
4-5 bars of chocolate
10-20 crushed candy canes
Pretzels
PAM or olive oil to coat the bowl

Turn crock pot on LOW and spray bowl with PAM or a little olive oil.  Break chocolate up into pieces and dump it in the pot.  Stir occasionally until melted.

Cover an 8x8 pan with wax paper and scoop chocolate out with a spatula onto wax paper and spread evenly.

Mash the pretzels into the chocolate and top with crushed candy canes.

Place in fridge 30 minutes to an hour or until cooled.  Cut into squares with a sharp knife.

Easiest dessert I ever made;-)  I think we might have just started a new family tradition.
